With less than a week til Gold Cup, many of my friends are furiously trying to find something to wear.  The concern has now become that if they go shopping at J. Crew, Nordstrom, Tickled Pink (or any of the other traditional options) they will wind up wearing the same thing as someone else.  This is an understandable fear.

This year, I’m avoiding this particularly shade of dread by doing my Gold Cup shopping at the Sunday Brunch Dress Shop.  This new online ventures has pretty, slightly retro pieces that are unlikely to be worn by anyone (or everyone) else on the green.

Mel en Stel Ruffle Dress (SBDS, $350)

Mel en Stel Ruffle Dress (SBDS, $350)

Goodness knows, I love me some ruffle.  I’m still deciding whether I will replace the waist tie with a brown/grey leather belt or perhaps and printed sash.  But I love the vibrant blue color.

Geox Marisol Sandal (Piperlime, $170)

Geox Marisol Sandal (Piperlime, $170)

Wedges, so you don’t sink into the turf (this is critical).  I like the neutral snake pattern, and I prefer the wood wedge to the cork.  These shoes are also “breathe-able” if you’re concerned with that sort of thing.

Viktor Osborn Oatmeal Beach Hat (Satine, $300)

Viktor Osborn Oatmeal Beach Hat (Satine, $300)

I like a simple straw hat.  This Viktor Osborn has good shape and structure.  You could also do a simple bucket hat if you wish.  Add brooches, scarves and small belts for decoration.

Add a coordinating clutch, a pair of tortoise shell sunglasses and some simple jewelry and you’re off to the races.  And one last word of advice, pack some moist towelettes and a small atomizer of body spray in your purse.  Because even though you will be perspiring, it’s never okay to smell like it.
