No diatribe or rant, just giving your blog two lipsticks up. I just found it this morning and love it.
I used to work on the Hill back in the floppy tie and Reebocks to work days. Ugh. I got around that by wearing old loafers to commute and in a job interview on the Hill, I did the floppy tie thing my way. I wore a black skirt, black/white tweed jacket, white silk blouse and 2 ties twisted together, 1 plain green and 1 black and white.
It was 1986 and I still got the job.

Hi Belle,
Re: The black and purple Divya pumps from SM’s new Target line…under what circumstances, if any, would those be appropriate for work? I’m fresh from undergrad and still figuring out the rules.
Thanks!

Would you do a post on collars with jackets?
I never wear collared shirts with jackets because I think the two collars always look weird together the shapes aren’t right, the shirt looks weird over the jacket, but weird under the jacket too.

Belle –
I’m moving away from the South’s mild winters and into DC’s freezing coldness in Mid-January to join the staff of a newly elected congressman.
I need a crash course in dressing for DC winters. How does one weather the commute and make it thru the day while staying warm and looking fabulous?
I’m sure my Southern sisters making the move will appreciate your guidance as well.
Thank you!

What is your take on great looks to go out or wear to work for women of a certain – say above size 12 – size? It’s easy to get plenty of exercise running around the halls of the Hill every day but sometimes that’s not enough for us to stay model thin. And some of us have to drive to work and no longer do the walking/mass transit commute. What looks do you like on women with curves?

Hi Belle,
Do you have any suggestions for the intern dress code in general? I’ve heard (and seen visual proof) that interns can sometimes wear jeans, and I’d like to know what I should be looking for when I start shopping for my summer internship on the Hill. I don’t want to be overdressed, but I don’t want to look like a hick.
Also, any suggestions (possibly a 10th Commandment feature?) on sheath dresses? I’ve found some beautiful ones, but honestly… I’m on an intern’s paycheck, which means I’m a broke college student. Please help!

I loved your “ugly pajamas” post! So did you get Ojamas for Christmas?

Hi Belle,
Any fashion advice for those of us heading to inaugural balls next week?
Thanks!

Hi Belle,
Love this site! I could use your help on something. I just got a promotion, and I need to start wearing jackets to work (don’t have to match the pants, but have to have a jacket). I am already bored with black, grey, khaki. Where can I find some interesting jackets, and what are the trends? (Not too much a ruffles person).
Thanks!

Welle belle…
Papa just raves about you! He and Elsie told me all about your website so I had to check it out (rather than studying for my two exams that I have in the morning)and I have to say, you have lived up to the praise!
Now get back to work! :P

Belle, do you mind if I forward your chick downtown post to alt.fashion, a group on Facebook that discusses shopping? I want to get your ok first because it is a group, not a set of individual people. Thanks.

Vicki, feel free to forward it to anyone you want.
